Meet the Health DC Online team
Karan Thomas and Jill Whitehall are our expert team of Tutors behind Health DC Online, offering a wealth of experience between them within the public and private health sectors. They are regularly involved in projects and programmes with organisations such as the RSPH, The University of Manchester, Alzheimer’s Research UK and many local and regional health authorities.
Karan Thomas
Public Health Specialist, Director & Facilitator


Karan has more than 30 years’ experience in Health Improvement and Public Health practice as an independent consultant. Her specialist topic areas are physical activity, health behaviour change and group learning.
She has a wide range of experience of working with both public and private sector organisations and frontline staff. Until recently, she was an Honorary Fellow at Manchester University School of Epidemiology and Population Health. She is currently a member of The Royal Society for Public Health’s sector advisory panel for behaviour change training.
Karan is a visiting lecturer for the Masters programmes at The University of Bristol and The University of Manchester, and is regularly asked to speak at industry conferences and events.
Jill is a Registered Dietitian and Nutrition Consultant, with recent experience in a clinical role within a GP practice. Prior to this, she was a Learning & Development Manager with Macmillan Cancer Support, where she completed a Master's Degree in Professional Development.
With over 30 years’ experience in the field of nutrition, diet and public health, Jill has developed particular expertise in the design and delivery of training workshops, including trainer training, and resource development for health professionals and patients, particularly in relation to healthy weight management and lifestyle behaviour change.

She has been running a successful business as a freelance dietitian since the mid-1990s, offering a professional nutrition and dietetic service to both the public and private sectors. In addition, Jill is a member of The Royal Society for Public Health’s sector advisory panel for nutrition and is an examiner for their Level 4 Award in Nutrition. She is currently training to be a Lifestyle Medicine Practitioner with the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine.
